    • Steward and Buriak's proposed mechanism was based on a control experiment with silane and 1-pentene dissovled in d6-benzene that only reacted when irradiated by 254 nm light, but not visible light. This effect could be explained by 254 nm light absorption by the benzene solvent, which was not present in the patterning experiments.
