In addition, the Coster-Kronig transition rates are very sensitive to the details of the local electronic structure and may also influence the Auger profiles of the two phases. Considering the L2L4,5M 4,5 lines, the Coster Kronig Auger electron has just enough energy to escape from the atom in Zn metal while the change in chemical state in ZnO forbids this transition L2 vacancies are unavailable, Hence, the {L3M4,5M4,5, L2M 4,5M4,5} in the oxide is 1.2 higher for the oxide than for the metal. This anomaly is useful to further confirm the presence of Zn phase and ZnO phase instead of a homogeneous mixture ZnOx
