44. In many cases it was nessesary to numerically study a "perfect" crystal at various wavelengths or orientations in a lattice with periodic boundary conditions. In order to avoid boundary effects the width (and height) of the simulation cell should be an integer number of wavelength along the x (y) direction. In all cases where this was necessary (i.e., elastic constants, grain boundary energies, etc.) the width and height were first adjusted independently to be as close as possible to satisfying this condition. Finally the wavelengths (in both x and y directions) and orientations were then adjusted to provide an exact match.
