    • 39 Because of the PMT detection cut-off above ∼730 nm we need to be concerned about any artificial signal increases caused by the spectral shifts as the tip is moved along the vertical axis. By doing a simple intensity analysis of the known STM-LE spectra on the Au(111) surface we have concluded that any spectral shift due to tip retraction is not sufficient to explain the two rders of magnitude enhancement observed over QD multilayers.
