    • This number is a ratio of number of photons arriving to the mirror surface to the total number of emitted photons from the tip-sample junction. The gold coated mirror surface is highly reflective, >95%, at wavelengths >600 nm. Taking into account the shadowing by the tip and the limited transmission of the sapphire windows, the overall collection efficiency of photons, i.e., the ratio of the number of photons into the spectrometer slit to the number of photons leaving the sample, is about 30%.
