Room temperature incubation of the amino-terminated Au with this solution for 2 h provides full coverage of the Au surface with protected thiol groups. Deprotection is achieved by subsequent exposure of the modified substrate to a solution of 0.5 M hydroxylamine in pH 7 50 mM PBS, 25 mM ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, and 50 mM dithiothreitol for 20 min. Samples were then rinsed with Milli-Q water (Millipore 18.2 MΩ).
