The isomeric 2-alkyl-4-(alkylthio)-2H-pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidines were sometimes significant by-products in these syntheses.{A figure is presented}The regioisomers are easily distinguishable by virtue of NOE signals between the heterocycle H-3 proton and N-2 substituents. Such signals are not evident for the N-1-substituted isomer.
