    • 5-HTTLPR polymorphism impacts human cingulate-amygdala interactions: a genetic susceptibility mechanism for depression
    • A human study combining genetics, neuroimaging and psychological assessment to investigate the role of the 5HTTLPR polymorphism in modulating brain function and emotional behavior. This study demonstrates that the 5HTTLPR polymorphism impacts the functional coupling of the amygdala and the anterior cingulate. Furthermore, this study demonstrates that the degree of functional coupling of the amygdala and the anterior cingulate is a predictor of temperamental anxiety.

    • Examination of behavioral deficits triggered by targeting Bdnf in fetal or postnatal brains of mice
    • These three studies apply state-of-the-art technology to conditionally manipulate bdnf expression in mice and use this approach to address questions about the tissue specific role of BDNF signaling in emotional behavior. The studies demonstrate that BDNF signaling differentially affects depression-like behavior, depending upon the brain are in which signaling is modulated
