Signs of first-degree heart block occur in one-third of fetuses of pregnant women with anti-SSA/Ro 52-kd antibodies
-
This prospective study demonstrates that signs of first-degree heart block occur in as many as one third of Ro52-positive pregnancies, but that it is is spontaneously reversible. The study also documents the first case progressing from first-degree block to third degree block, substantiating the concept that congenital heart block is a progressively developing disease.

Cytokine polymorphisms and histologic expression in autopsy studies: contribution of TNF-α and TGF-β1 to the pathogenesis of autoimmune-associated congenital heart block
-
The frequency of the TGF allele Leu10 was significantly increased in children with congenital heart block compared with their unaffected siblings, whereas TNF-308A was significantly increased in all forms of neonatal lupus. TGF, but not TNF, expression was found in the septal region of the heart in fetuses that died from congenital heart block.
