30. Most derivatives (apart from the achiral 3 a-3 c and 6 a) contain one or two (in the case of 3 f) stereogenic centers. To avoid the resolution of all the compounds, we decided to perform an initial screening of 3 d, 3 e, 3 g-n, and 6 b-d as enantiomeric mixtures, and of 3 f as a diastereomeric mixture. Chiral resolution of derivatives 3 f and 6 c, which exhibit the most interesting antiproliferative and cytodifferentiating activities, respectively, are in progress.

Non-commercially available 2-(2,6-difluorophenyl)alkanoic acids 4 b-d were prepared following a procedure previously reported by us (see references [13] and [20]).
