    • We found that the fluctuations of the velocity in the successive periods of directed motions were much less than those of the full distribution (Figures 2b and 3a). The relative standard deviation in a given trajectory was on average equal to 0.22 ±0.02 (n = 60), lower than 0.77, the relative standard deviation computed for the full distribution. This finding further supports the idea that the width of the velocity distribution results from heterogeneity between the purified kinesins and that the directed motions are due to individual active motors.
