Phyzyme XP 5000G is a microbial phytase enzyme preparation from Danisco Animal Nutrition (Marlborough, UK). Phyzyme XP 5000G phytase from E. coli expressed in yeast is a 6-phytase with acid phosphatase activity (with pH optimum of 2 to 5.5) that initiates hydrolysis at position 6 of the inositol-6-phosphate molecule when the pH is at the upper acidic range and the same phytase molecule has acid phosphatase activity when the pH is more acidic. 5000 refers to the guaranteed minimum enzyme activity in phytase units (FTU) per gram and G refers to the product form (i.e., dry and 1 FTU is the amount of enzyme that liberates 1 μmol of inorganic phosphate per minute from sodium phytate at pH 5.5 and 37°C.
