    • A self-sustaining, light-entrainable circadian oscillator in the Drosophila brain
    • vs and within the central brain. The use of real-time analysis to compare the total output of per to output that was restricted to the dorsal clusters reveals systems properties of the brain clock. The transgenes are doing double duty as reporters and as 'per rescue' constructs. The approach is to explore the neural circuitry underlying brain clock function by transgene induced mosaics. The results indicate that central brain clock function is distributed and might even be topographically organized. Discrete clusters of cells in the brain appear to form a clock control circuit with the dorsal clusters mediating photic input. This study is provocative and may be a 'first' in the analysis of brain clock circuitry in Drosophila.
