We typically used a cutoff energy in the range of ∼3000 K. The precise value of the cutoff energy was, however, determined by the largest size of the mesh used in k space, L=29a, and the maximum available memory of the computers used. The cutoff 3273 K, e.g., corresponds to a complex matrix of linear size N =3220, and the next shell of states would not have fitted into the memory of the machines available.
