Evidence that negative feedback between antibody concentration and affinity regulates humoral response consolidation to a non-infectious antigen in infants
-
Jackola DR, Liebeler CL, Lin C-Y, et al. Evidence that negative feedback between antibody concentration and affinity regulates humoral response consolidation to a non-infectious antigen in infants. Mol Immunol 2005; 42:19-30. These investigators demonstrated that all individuals usually respond to allergens, but in atopy there is an increased production of high affinity IgE antibody while non-atopic individuals produce an equally high affinity IgG1 antibody.

A demonstration and findings of a statistical approach a through reanalysis of inflammatory bowel disease data
-
Lo S-H, Zheng T. A demonstration and findings of a statistical approach a through reanalysis of inflammatory bowel disease data. Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A 2004; 101:10386-10391. This paper uses a new statistical approach of the backward haplotype transmission association algorithm on genome-screen data for an analysis of inflammatory bowel disease data. The technique can be used for other complex phenotype studies such as asthma and atopy.

Multipoint linkage disequilibrium mapping for complex diseases
-
Liang K-Y, Hsu F-C, Beaty TH. Multipoint linkage disequilibrium mapping for complex diseases. Genet Epidemiol 2003; 25:285-292. These authors discuss using a multipoint linkage disequilibrium method to estimate the location of a susceptibility gene. They discuss how this method can be used to address issues such as gene-gene and gene-environment interactions, genetic heterogeneity, phenotypic refinement and parental versus maternal transmission.

Effects of dog ownership and genotype on immune development and atopy in infancy
-
Gern JE, Reardon CL, Hoffjan S, et al. Effects of dog ownership and genotype on immune development and atopy in infancy. J Allergy Clin Immunol 2004; 113:307-314. This group of investigators revisits the effect of pet exposure and genotype on immunologic development and the incidence of atopic markers and disease in the first year of life. They present data suggesting that postnatal exposure to dogs can influence immune development in the genotype-specific fashion and thereby attenuate the development of atopy in at-risk children.
