    • Pseudorotaxanes result from strict self-assembly - which, in numerous instances, is commensurate with supramolecular synthesis - where stereoelectronically complementary subunits interact spontaneously to produce the final complexes under thermodynamic control. All the rotaxanes and catenanes mentioned in this Account are a result of self-assembly with covalent modification - that is, supramolecular assistance to molecular synthesis in this instance - to give the final compounds under kinetic control.
