    • 1 is a consequence of the extensive solvation, the large number of very weak reflections, and serious and unresolved inconsistencies in the high-angle data (very asymmetric intensity distributions and negative overall U values from Wilson plots), discrepancies that necessitated weighting of the data before a solution could even be obtained and the abandoning of the data in the range 40°<0<52° for the refinements. Crystallographic data (excluding structure factors) for the structure reported in this paper have been deposited with the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre as supplementary publication no. CCDC-100468. Copies of the data can be obtained free of charge on application to The Director, CCDC, 12 Union Road, Cambridge CB21EZ, UK (fax: int. code + (1223)336-033; e-mail: deposit@chemcrys.cam.ac.uk).

    • note
    • In view of the limited accuracy of the data and the presence of disorder within parts of the polyether linkages, we have not carried out a detailed analysis of the possible intercomponent [CH ⋯O] hydrogen bonding, although undoubtedly these interactions will have additional stabilizing effects on the overall molecular geometry.
