    • Toll-like receptor 2-dependent inhibition of macrophage class II MHC expression and antigen processing by 19-kDa lipoprotein of Mycobacterium tuberculosis
    • This paper describes the ability of M. tuberculosis to inhibit MΦ antigen processing via a TLR2-dependent pathway. The specific inhibitor was biochemically characterized, isolated and identified as a 19 kDa lipoprotein. This inhibitory mechanism may allow M. tuberculosis bacilli to immunologically silence the MΦs in which they reside, promoting evasion of T cell responses

    • McGuirk and colleagues demonstrate that B. pertussis filamentous hemagglutinin (FHA) induces DCs to produce IL-10. Moreover, they show that the IL-10-producing DCs generated by exposure to FHA direct naïve T cells into IL-10-producing regulatory T cells that suppress protective (IFN-γ producing) Th1 responses against B. pertussis. Thus, B. pertussis exploits the host's capacity to produce IL-10 as a means to modulate the immune response
