    • Nerve growth factor-induced phenotypic switch in guinea pig airway sensory neurons
    • Injection of NGF in the guinea pig tracheal wall increased the number of nodose and jugular neurones containing SP. Moreover, production of SP was induced in large-diameter capsaicin-insensitive neurones innervating the airways that were previously negative for SP immunoreactivity. NGF, therefore, not only increases the percentage of airway-specific sensory neurones expressing SP, but also leads to a phenotypic switch in the nature of vagal sensory neurones producing SP.
