    • 3 were formed and rubbed by a piece of lens tissue drenched in chloroform. AFM, performed before and after rubbing, does not show a difference in surface structure. If the partially formed monolayer is subsequently immersed in a DTS solution, these shorter molecules decorate the already formed OTS islands. Rubbing only removes this decoration but leaves the first layer (OTS and DTS) unchanged.
