nX in ethanol were prepared, and the coverage was controlled by variation of the incubation time. We prepared the STM tips from single-crystal tungsten wire using a dc etch. All STM imaging was done at room temperature in constant-current mode. The tunneling-current set point was fixed between 5 and 100 pA, and the bias voltage was set between ±(200 to 400) mV.
