    • We measured the lateral size and height of each individual dot from a cross-sectional profile along its center and used its own immediate base line as the reference instead of a universal baseline for a full image. In such a way, the uncertainty from baseline shift was avoided. The actual facets of these QDs are found to be close to {023} (for the shallower dots) and {011} (for the steeper dots) via transmission electron microscopic (TEM) studies. We note that the aspect ratio measured by TEM is larger than that by AFM for the same type of QDs due to the overestimation in lateral size by AFM as discussed.
