Intramolecular electron transfer from coordinated manganese(II) to photogenerated ruthenium (III)
-
Sun L, Hammarström L, Norrby T, Berglund H, Davydov R, Andersson M, Börje A, Korall P, Philouze C, Almgren M et a/.: Intramolecular electron transfer from coordinated manganese(II) to photogenerated ruthenium (III). Chem Commun 1997:607-608. A very simple model system which combines a ruthenium-based photosensitizer and a manganese-based electron donor. Light excitation of a Ru(II)-based complex causes the transfer of an electron to an external acceptor. The oxidized Ru(II)-based moiety is then reduced by the appended Mn-based moiety.

Conversion of light energy to proton potential in liposomes by artificial photosynthetic reaction centres
-
Steinberg-Yfrach G, Liddell PA, Hung S-C, Moore AL, Gust D, Moore TA: Conversion of light energy to proton potential in liposomes by artificial photosynthetic reaction centres. Nature 1997, 385:239-241. The excitation of a triad spanning the bilayer of a liposome causes the formation of a redox potential gradient which gives rise to a pH gradient between the inside and outside of the liposome.
