Short isoform of POU factor Brn-3b can form a heterodimer with Brn-3a that is inactive for octamer motif binding

-
Dawson SJ, Morris PJ, Latchman DS: A single amino acid change converts an inhibitory transcription factor into an activator. J Biol Chem 1996, 271:11631-11633. This report shows that a single amino acid change in the POU domain of Brn-3.2 is sufficient to alter the actions of the proposed short form of Brn-3.2 from that of a repressor to that of an activator on low-affinity octamerlike DNA response elements.
