Severe mental disorders in offspring with 2 psychiatrically ill parents
-
PID: 20194825, This paper describes a large population-based study from Denmark showing the risk to age 52 offspring with either no affected, 1 affected or 2 affected parents with either bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. It demonstrates that bipolar disorder risk is very much determined by a positive family history and that the illness starts to manifest during adolescence. It also demonstrates the importance of taking into account the major depression as part of the bipolar phenotype at-risk youth
