Similar models have been invoked to rationalize reactivity and selectivity in other nucleophile-electrophile combinations, although rigorous evidence for the operation of bimetallic mechanisms is seldom offered, see ref. 2. For some notable exceptions, see

Yields of more than 50% can be obtained in special cases where the epoxide can undergo racemization under hydrolytic conditions. This is an example of the well-known dynamic kinetic resolution, and is distinctly different from the strategy outlined here. See, ref. 50. This paper also illustrates a rare instance in which the slow reacting enantiomer from a classical kinetic resolution with exceptionally high kf/ks is transformed into the same initial product in a subsequent chemical reaction

For the conversion of a β-acylamidoazide to a 1,2-diamine, see ref. 28 See ESI for experimental details, spectroscopic and analytical data including chromatograms from chiral stationary phase separations. The enantiomeric excesses were determined by chiral phase liquid chromatography where base-line separation of the enantiomers were observed The starting racemic aziridines were prepared by reaction of the appropriate alkene substrate with IN3 followed by reduction with LiAlH4 and acylation with 4-nitrobenzoyl chloride. The enantiopure N-acyl aziridines were prepared from the corresponding α-amino acids via LiAlH4 reduction, Mitsunobu reaction and benzoylation. See ref. 18 for details For other examples, see
