This study evaluated nearly 2500 colonoscopies done in a routine clinical practice setting, half with standard and half with high definition colonoscopes. The study found a significantly higher ADR with high definition, although this was only seen for small, low-risk adenomas.

This was a randomized study of NBI vs. cap-fitted colonoscopy during inspection phase for second colonoscopy in patients with at least one adenoma detected during SDWL colonoscopy. Polyps discovered during the first procedure were not removed until the second procedure and the endoscopists were blinded to the first procedure's findings. This study found a significant increase in adenoma detection with cap-fitted colonoscopy.

Endoscopists were grouped in low (ADR <21), moderate (21-42%) and high (ADR > 42%) ADR groups based on adenoma detection rates from the preceding 12 months. Low ADR endoscopists had statistically lower withdrawal technique scores (40.8±3) compared to either the moderate (62.2±2.5) or high (59.5±3) ADR endoscopists, validating the previous findings
