    • The 'nitrene-radical' intermediate was proposed to be responsible for nitrene dimerization (formation of (R-NN-R)) and H-atom abstraction (to form the Co-NHR species). However a bulky group like a tosyl, which is pointing towards the plane of the porphyrin, will exclude any possible approach between two nitrene species

    • 2 loss from the azide adducts II and III should be at least comparable to the TS1 barrier from B. Hence, the formation of bis-nitrene species under the catalytic conditions is highly unlikely The hydrogen bond significantly stabilises the SOMO of the Co(porAmide) nitrene radical C (-5.397 eV) as compared to the SOMO of the Co(por) analog C′ (-5.094 eV). This likely contributes to the lower TS1 barrier shown in Fig. 3. Calculated Mulliken spin densities at both the BP86/def-TZVP level (Co 27%, N: 65%, O 6% and 7%) and at the b3-lyp, def-TZVP level (Co 2%, N: 87%, O 5% and 7%) reveal a nitrogen-centred radical
