Out-of-hospital hypertonic resuscitation following severe traumatic brain injury: A randomized controlled trial
-
This recent large randomized placebo control clinical trial is the largest trial on the early use of hypertonic solution after severe trauma brain injury. Hypertonic solution did not improve the 6-month neurologic outcome nor survival rate nor incidence of later invasive procedures to manage brain injury. These results suggest that osmotherapy might only be a rescue therapy to control intracranial hypertension and oedema, before decision for more aggressive intervention
