    • Fagnou and co-workers have described the arylation undergoes C-5 on N-methylimidazole rather than C-2 as a CMD mechanism is suggested to occur. On the contrary, Cu(I) salts are known to mediate C-2 arylation on the same substrate. Therefore, it may be possible that an (even catalytic) amount of copper(I) formed from copper(II) salts promotes the C-2 arylation of imidazoles.
