    • Note
    • In comparison to the leading edge, the peak energy is better defined and less influenced by experimental factors as instrument resolution or sample temperature. Moreover, unlike e.g. onset of secondary electrons, the line shape of the HOMO may show no leading edge, i.e. no linear portion. As such, the usage of the 'leading edge' of the HOMO particularly at low intensities may result in an uncertain determination of the ionization energy. It should be noted that the onsets of both the HOMO and the LUMO were argued to better represent transport levels of organic semiconductors when discussed in relations with transport and optical properties (see e.g. Refs. [25,46]).
