    • The authors identify the RSF remodelling and spacing factor in Drosophila, and show that it localises to non-transcribed regions of the genome in a complex with dISWI. RSF mutants are able to suppress position effect variegation, and act synergistically with mutations in the H2Av gene. Mechanistically, RSF aids heterochromatin formation by aiding H2Av deposition.

The authors identify the RSF remodelling and spacing factor in Drosophila, and show that it localises to non-transcribed regions of the genome in a complex with dISWI. • The chromatin remodelling factor dATRX is involved in heterochromatin formation
    • The authors identify the Drosophila dATRX gene and show that mutations in it have an effect on heterochromatin formation through suppression of position effect variegation. Furthermore, dATRX protein is shown to interact directly with heterochromatin protein 1 (dHP-1) through a CxVxL motif.
