PhD Thesis. University of Waterloo, Canada. This paper is part of the PhD thesis of D.R. Schlaepfer, which deals with the ecological significance of ploidy level of native and invasive populations of Solidago gigantea. P.J. Edwards is professor of plant ecology at the ETH Zurich. His interests include among others invasion biology, nutrient cycling, ecosystem dynamics and biodiversity in agricultural landscapes. A. Widmer is professor for plant ecological genetics at the ETH Zurich. His research focuses on the ecological and evolutionary consequences of hybridization, the genetics of adaptation and differentiation, and on the evolution of complex genomes. Regula Billeter is a senior researcher at the ETH Zurich. Her research interests include invasion biology, climate change, succession ecology and biodiversity in agricultural landscapes.
