The increase in CBF was similar during norepinephrine and terlipressin therapy. There was no evidence of increase in cerebral metabolic rate for oxygen on microdialysis.

Fuhrmann V, Madl C, Mueller C, et al. Hepatopulmonary syndrome in patients with hypoxic hepatitis. Gastroenterology 2006; 131:69-75. This is the first time that a high incidence of hepatopulmonary syndrome was reported outside the setting of chronic liver disease in a subgroup of patients with ALF. It remains to be seen if some degree of intrapulmonary shunting complicates all forms of ALF.
