One of the early papers on the effects of sulfated glycans on PrP metabolism in scrapie-infected neuroblastoma cells, which investigates the effects of PPS, among other substances. The authors identify prophylactic and therapeutic effects of sulfated polyanions and hypothesise that these may be due to inhibition of PrP accumulation.

The first preclinical study of the therapeutic efficacy of direct PPS infusion into the brains of transgenic mice intracerebrally infected with 263K scrapie agent.
