This result was originally ascribed to the low quality of the crystal. However, crystals of different sizes grown from chloroform or toluene gave the identical structural pattern. Therefore, we attribute this unexpected structural pattern to the possibility that the opposite orientation of the ending amide units is very similar in energy and occurs with identical probability.
