Expression of CD68 and macrophage chemoattractant protein-1 genes in human adipose and muscle tissues: Association with cytokine expression, insulin resistance, and reduction by pioglitazone
-
Di Gregorio GB, Yao-Borengasser A, Rasouli N, et al. Expression of CD68 and macrophage chemoattractant protein-1 genes in human adipose and muscle tissues: association with cytokine expression, insulin resistance, and reduction by pioglitazone. Diabetes 2005; 54:2305-2313. This paper demonstrated that human adipose tissue contains macrophages, and that the expression of TNFα and interleukin-6 correlated with adipose macrophages. In response to thiazolidinediones, macrophage number decreased, as did the adipose tissue expression of MCP-1.
