    • 2O. 300 mg of 10% Pd on carbon was added in. It was then treated with hydrogen (60 psi) in a Parr apparatus for 12 h. Solid was filtered off and the solution was evaporated under vacuum to dryness. Recrystallization from ethanol-water (with addition of dilute aqueous HCl solution, 4-5 equiv of HCl) furnished compound 5 (dil HCl salt) as pale-yellow crystals. Yield: 1.15 g, 61% (three steps from oxirane 22).
