The use of a two-site immunoenzymatic assay to analyse the content of six latex allergens in latex gloves. Hev b 5 and Hev b 6.01/6.02 were detected in all gloves tested and the combination of Hev b 5 and Hev b 13 was shown to correlate best with the IgE binding capacity of latex gloves.

This study showed that Hev b 5 contains a repetitive linear B-cell epitope, potentially contributing to the high potency of this allergen. Critical residues for IgE binding were identified by site-directed mutagenesis.
