Plant genome archaeology: Evidence for conserved ancestral chromosome segments in dicotyledonous plant species
-
The authors of this paper are the first to attempt to compare several dicotyledonous plant genomes, including the Arabidopsis genome as a model. This study revealed collinear chromosome segments that have markers in the same order in several species, suggesting that they are ancestral segments. This paper also includes statistical treatments and describes the evolutionary story of the Arabidopsis genome.

Intraspecific violation of genetic colinearity and its implications in maize
-
A fascinating paper showing that a 100 kbp region around the major Bronze locus has undergone important rearrangements that resulted in the violation of collinearity within the same species.
