Note that this solution had to be vigorously stirred with a magnetic bar (with a rotation rate of ∼1200 rpm) during the entire process. Finally, 20 mL of the as-synthesized dispersion of silver nanoparticles was transferred to a 50-mL flask and refluxed in an oil bath with temperature set at 105°C. After the refluxing had been continued for 10 h, the dispersion turned light blue. All the experiments were performed in a fume hood under the ambient condition of a chemical laboratory. The transmission electron microscopic (TEM) images and electron diffraction patterns were taken using a JEOL-1200XII microscope operated at 80 kV. The high-resolution TEM images were captured using a Topcon 002B microscope operated at 200 kV. The scanning electron microscopic (SEM) images were obtained using a FEI field-emission microscope (Siron XL) operated at 5 kV. All UV-visible-NIR extinction spectra were recorded at room temperature using a Cary 5E (Varian) spectrophotometer and a quartz cuvette with a 1-cm optical length.
