    • Merkx M., Lippard S.J. Why OrfY? characterization of MMOD, a long-overlooked component of the soluble methane monooxygenase from Methylococcus capsulatus (Bath). J Biol Chem. 277:2002;5858-5865. The fourth protein of the sMMO system, MMOD, was shown to be expressed in Mc cells. Purified MMOD interacts with MMOH, altering the spectroscopic properties of the diiron site and inhibiting activity. The possibility that MMOD has a role in metal cluster formation is discussed.
