    • Preliminary examination of the electrode surface using electric force microscopy (EFM), a technique capable of discerning conductive and nonconductive areas with nanometer resolution, indicates the presence of conductive islands surrounded by nonconductive material for similarly prepared multilayer samples (five to eight layers). Presumably conductive paths beneath the surface provide electrical contact between islands.
