Deciphering the biology of Mycobacterium tuberculosis from the complete genome sequence
-
1 Cole ST, Brosch R, Parkhill J, Garnier T, Churcher C, Harris D, et al. Deciphering the biology of Mycobacterium tuberculosis from the complete genome sequence. Nature 1998; 393:537-544. The complete genome sequence of M. tuberculosis H37Rv is the first product of the Pathogen Genome Unit at the Sanger Centre. Comparing this genome with those of M. tuberculosis CDC1551, M. bovis AF2122/97, M. leprae and M. avium will provide a rich source of information for future research.

Use of a Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv bacterial artificial chromosome library for genome mapping, sequencing, and comparative genomics. Infect Immun 1998; 66:2221-2229. In this paper the authors demonstrate the advantages and practical implementation of bacterial artificial chromosomes. Several chromosomal polymorphisms between M. tuberculosis, M. bovis and M. bovis BCG were revealed.
