    • The coordinated action of CC chemokines in the lung orchestrates allergic inflammation and airway hyperresponsiveness
    • This comprehensive study assessed the role that different chemokines (eotaxin, MCP-1, MCP-5, RANTES and MIP-1α) play in lung allergic inflammation and bronchial hyper-reactivity by blocking their activities in vivo. The results suggest that different chemokines activate different cellular and molecular pathways that in a co-ordinated fashion contribute to the complex pathophysiology of asthma and that their individual blockage results in intervention at different levels of these processes

    • Given the role of Th2 cells in lung eosinophilia and the restricted repertoire of chemokine receptors expressed by these lymphocytes, the functional role of ligands for CCR4 and CCR8 is an important question. • A role for Th1 and Th2 cells in the immunopathogenesis of atopic dermatitis
    • These authors propose a model of sequential Th cell activation in atopic dermatitis. During the initiation phase, atopic dermatitis is dominated by cytokines derived from activated allergen-specific Th2 cells. Subsequently, local inflammation will attract and activate infiltrating cells - such as eosinophils and macrophages - to produce IL-12, which leads to the activation of allergen-specific and non-specific Th1 and Th0 cells. Finally, IFN-γ-producing T cells may be responsible for the chronic phase of atopic dermatitis and the severity of the disease
