    • Initiation of mammalian liver development from endoderm by fibroblast growth factors
    • This paper demonstrates the activity of and the requirement for fibroblast growth factors in directing the differentiation of the embryonic foregut toward the hepatic lineage. The specificity of the factors and the threshold of activity suggest that this signaling event is tightly regulated

    • C/EBP alpha regulates generation of C/EBP beta isoforms through activation of specific proteolytic cleavage
    • Identification of a novel mechanism for generation of C/EBPβ isoforms by proteolytic cleavage was demonstrated. Because the cell has at least two methods of producing truncated C/EBPβ proteins (alternative translation and proteolytic cleavage) it is interesting to speculate that multiple biological processes may be dependent on the various C/EBPβ proteins
