    • 2O solution, the nanotube film was found to spontaneously drift away from the quartz glass surface due, most probably, to acid etching of the quartz glass surface underneath the nanotubes. The floating nanotube film was very quickly transferred into pure water to minimize any possible side effect. Aqueous solutions of HF, however, have been commonly used to dissolve aluminium oxide membranes for recovering the template-synthesised carbon nanotubes without any noticeable effect on the nanotube properties (see ref 12).
