Vascular endothelial growth-factor induced retinal permeability is mediated by protein kinase C in vivo and suppressed by an orally effective β-isoform selective inhibitor. This is an important paper showing that although VEGF activates multiple PKCs in the retina, specific inhibition of PKCβ is sufficient to inhibit VEGF-induced changes in intraocular permeability.

This paper shows that vitamin D prevents 1,2-diacylglycerol accumulation in the glomeruli of diabetic rats and normalizes renal function, which was associated with increased 1,2-diacylglycerol kinase activity, further supporting the importance of 1,2-diacylglycerol as a modulator of diabetic nephropathy by PKC activation.
