The mean variance-weighted periods and associated variance-weighted SD (6) for Gl, CCA1, and LHY cycling transcript levels were obtained from three independent trials with fast Fourier transform-nonlinear least squares (FFT-NLLS) curve-fitting software (27). The low amplitude of the gi-2 data did not allow precise period estimates, and we cannot exclude the possibility that these rhythms are rapidly damping to arrhythmicity. However, the results are consistent with the lengthening of period seen in the more highly resolved luminescence rhythms (Table 1).

2 population (n = 36) of seedlings segregating for gi-2 {[gi-2 (Col) × 2CAC F3] × Col) were scored for the correlation between the luminescence-based circadian phenotype and the presence of either a 5-bp deletion in gi-1 or for a 7-bp deletion in gi-2. Each genotype was identified by PCR with primer pairs that uncovered a 5-bp deletion in gi-1 (primer pairs, 5′-GGAGTTGCAGCCTTGGATCG-3′ and 5′-AGATCTGATGCACTTGCGAG-3′) and a 7-bp deletion in gi-2 (primer pairs, 5′-CAGAATGACTATTCGGAGCA-3′ and 5′-GGAGAACCACTAGTTGTAGC-3′).
