    • A catalytic amount of KOtBu (1.2 equiv relative to complex 1) was added every time after the former reaction, to protect the catalyst from traces of water, which may be introduced during the course of transfer. Catalyzed by complex 1, water and alcohols can be transformed to carboxylic acids, which would poison the catalyst in the absence of base, see.
